The going rate for headshot portraits in Phoenix runs from $25 to over $1000, for one headshot.
My current rates, available if you scroll down the homepage, are on the middle to high end of the range for our market, as is the quality of the work.
Not being the cheapest, I like to feel the value is there.
People will pay anything from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars for a hair cut and style.
The people who spend the big bucks on a hairstyle usually appreciate the value received in terms of how well their hair looks, complements received, ease of care, how long the hair style stays well behaved after the cut and style, and in how it improves appearance and how an enhanced appearance enhances their lives, especially financially and socially. How can spending more money on a hairstyle or a professional portrait headshot or dating headshot put more money in under your mattress? The value added side of the coin is addressed separately.
More to the point here, what happens when your $5 haircut looks a bit ratty the next day, and you go into a job interview or client meeting looking less than your best?
What is it costing your personal brand when you are not looking your best?
If someone, who otherwise is exactly like you, has a $75 haircut, crafted by a styling studio worthy of the $75 rate, will they make a better impression than you?
Will they be more confident than you, seeing how great their hair lays in the mirror that morning?
Will you be at competitive advantage or disadvantage?
You do not get to make this first impression a second time. What is the cost of being cheap in your personal grooming choices? Legion.
In my experience, a great hair style will go for about 6-8 weeks before a recut is required. Even a slightly cheaper style, which may look okay out the door, starts to look ratty after 2-4 weeks. Not only do I have to get recuts sooner with poor styles, which I have pay for again, I have to put time into going to my appointment, and sitting at the appointment for the recut.
What is your time worth? It takes at least an hour to get a cut and style, between driving and getting cut and all. I’m much better off springing for the experience I know is top drawer out of the chute.
You might be much better off serving or determining how to serve additional clients, than wasting time getting poorer quality hair styles.
In Image your Headshot Quality is Value
When you are talking about your image, be it your wardrobe, your hair styling, or how you apply your makeup, quality is value.
One does not just need to have ones hair off the ears. One needs to rock that hair style. This takes a stylist artist who is paid a living decent wage to take the time and care to craft and hone and practice their skill on your hair.
For a quick $5 haircut, you are either dealing with a haircut mill, or with a hairstylist who is able to cut hair, but who cannot make people look their best.
People who can make you look your best, provide value to you. This value is definite, and while not directly measurable in each case, we all know the person who comes in rocking the great haircut gets the attention.
The person with the great headshot dating portrait gets the better dating offers and prospects.
The person with the headshot with a weird or less than effective expression gets what’s left over, from someone who does not appreciate quality.
